I was a total beginner to Thai 3 months ago. I've been very intensive about learning, committing to 1 hour with Prae, and 1 - 2 hours of self review every day. When I started, I met with many tutors on this platform to search for the best fit. I have to say, Prae stood out compared to the rest. I'm so happy I found her. After meeting with her daily for ~3 months now, I have to say, she is an exceptional teacher. After only 3 months of study, I'm able to have basic conversations with native Thai speakers. Here are all the things that made Prae stand out to me: Prae tailors lessons for me exceptionally well. If there’s something I want to learn, all I have to do is tell Prae, and she will on-the-fly adapt our lesson to make sure I understand the concept. When we speak in Thai, she will talk slowly, and use words I know. I don’t know how she does it, but she has memorized every Thai word/concept I know, and is able to have conversations with me in a way where I can follow everything she says. She somehow has a database in her head of all ~1000 words I know. Prae puts in a lot of effort and focus to understand my abilities. It’s important to her that she is aware of my progress. This personalized attentiveness has helped tremendously with my progress. She’s able to challenge me at a level that’s perfectly out of reach of my abilities. This way, the concepts we learned get reinforced, and I’m pushed to learn a little bit outside my comfort zone. Because of the time I’m committing, my learning pace is a lot faster than typical. Prae has done a great job at adapting our lessons to keep up with this pace. Prae is very smart, and she deeply understands the Thai language. Many times during class, I will stop her to ask very specific questions. She always gives me comprehensive explanations with examples to go along. As a logical thinker, it’s been very helpful having someone who can clearly explain language in a logical way. Prae has mastered Paiboon+ transliteration - Don’t underestimate the importance of this. I have not successfully learned to read Thai yet (I’m more focused on conversation, but I’m working on reading script… slowly). A lot of the other Thai tutors I met with use some arbitrary system for transliterating Thai into latin script. Prae has perfected Paiboon+ transliteration. She can type up accurate transliterations as they’re needed. This has really helped me with pronunciation for when I’m reviewing class notes. Everything is standardized, so there’s never ambiguity in pronunciation. If reading script isn’t something you plan to learn and use for study, you need to find a tutor who has mastered transliteration. Prae has not once been late, always responds quickly, is very friendly, is very humble, and is very enthusiastic about teaching. She documents everything we learn, and makes sure I get a copy right as class ends. Meeting with her is often the best part of my days, and I’m always excited for class. I typically don’t write reviews for stuff, but in this case I feel indebted to Prae and I want to give back by sharing my appreciation. Speaking Thai has been an amazing gift, and I wish there was more I could do to thank Prae for the passion she’s put into helping my learning journey.
