Masa is a special teacher because he's a special person. He incarnates all the virtues of japanese people: kind, sweet, passionate, professional and generous. He plans the lessons in advance, in accordance with the student, he assigns homeworks, and correct them with the student. He makes students practice conversation, and makes the lesson fun and enjoyable. I suggest him to everyone

I've been working with Kana-sensei for 1-2 lessons per week for the past year or so and she has been an amazing teacher throughout. She has been slowly building my language ability, guiding me through course book to a point where I feel confident at N5 and and progressing towards N4.
She takes the extra time needed to understand where my gaps are and point out areas for me to focus my study on, and when preparing for exams she find resources for me, guides me through mock papers and goes above and beyond to help me learn.
With Kana-sensei's help I'm confident that I'll be able to thrive on my learning journey.

I really love Teacher Ami's teaching style; it is relaxed and stress-free. I also enjoy chatting about daily life with her, which I find very interesting. You make me look forward to classes even more. Today we learned about Japanese vocabulary for body parts. Even though I was exhausted after watching the World Cup, I felt fully energized the moment class started. Thank you once again, Teacher Ami! 🙃🫡

Thanks sensei for explaining the possibility of alternative vocabularies and collocation of them. It helps me a lot in understanding which way of presentations are more suitable for different situations.

Mikko sensei was easy going and friendly. I can always discuss with her on our study plans and the topics I would like to study. Mikko sensei always listens very carefully to me, and tries to provide a more native expression to me. Lessons were fun and relaxing! Always recommend Mikko sensei to all!

I feel at ease when talking to Reiko as she is very good at deepening our conservations. While we do not engage in debates we do talk about various topics at length, often dealing with Japanese culture. She is good at correcting my errors as I often tend to use the wrong words. I highly recommend her as a Japanese tutor.

I have been taking the course for more than three years, the teacher is capable not only teaching the grammar and vocabularies, but help me to familiar with the language, memorize and talk in Japanese naturally. I am suprised that, when I visiting Japan, I feel easy to express myself, order in restaurants, even negotiate the hotel room arrangement with staff in Japanese. Thank you so much to my teacher, Miho san.

Teacher Miyu uses her own PowerPoint to teach and explains very clearly in detail. Besides grammar and vocabulary, she also gives a lot of chances for students to speak and have daily conversations in Japanese. I am able to learn various expressions while utilising the things I have learnt.

Prof. Sassa is a very approachable person. Apart from the course plan discussion, we focused mostly on pronunciation and tones (considering that I have almost absolutely no knowledge of the Japanese language). I would recommend Prof. Sassa to other people who are starting the language from scratch and looking to develop a good speaking habit.

Asako san is friendly and patient. She is enthusiastic about teaching. She always makes sure I understand what she is talking about before moving to the next topic. Sometimes we talk about topics outside of textbook, which opens me to more vocabulary. Taking her classes is fun and relaxing!

Karin has been a very helpful teacher as I work to improve my speech skills in Japanese. Classes feel structured but not strict, and she creates a warm and inviting atmosphere to learn. I have taken five lessons from her, and I would recommend anyone to reach out to her!
Teacher taught me about the rules of v. change in a detailed way and let me do oral practices many times. That helps me understand the rule and get familiar with them through the oral practice. That is very helpful.

Q2. Who are our Japanese tutors?
AmazingTalker handpicks only the best local and international Japanese tutors.
Each prospective instructor must undergo a rigorous selection process before becoming an AT Japanese tutor, after which their performance is constantly monitored. Try a class and start learning today.
Q3. How do I choose my Japanese tutor?
If you have a clear idea of your criteria for choosing a tutor - such as any specific learning objectives, target cost for tutoring, etc. - you can use the search function to quickly find a tutor who suits your needs, and select “book trial” to set up your first Japanese online lesson.
If you don't have time to find a tutor or aren't sure where to start, we can help with recommendations. Try using our tutor recommendation tool here, which will provide you with tutor matches according to your selected needs.
Q4. What's the right learning environment for me? Should I choose a Japanese tutor who is a native speaker?
One of the best ways to learn Japanese is to immerse yourself in an environment where you try to use only Japanese.
However, if you do not currently have a solid base in spelling and/or vocabulary, we recommend you choose a bilingual tutor who speaks your target language and your native language, as you will likely have a better learning experience during your one-on-one private tutoring.
If you have a good range of vocabulary but lack the opportunity to practice, then we recommend you choose a native Japanese tutor.
Q5. Learn Japanese in the US - how do I find a local or online tutor?
You're in the right place. We have local Japanese tutors serving New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and most other areas nationwide, as well as numerous tutors based internationally.
Q6. How much will my online Japanese class cost?
All tutoring fees are set by the Japanese tutors themselves, and not by AT. Most of our Japanese tutors charge USD$10-30 per hour.
You can also get matched with suitable Japanese tutors who fit a specific budget. If the tutor’s fees work for you, you can buy a lesson package from them or start with a “trial lesson.”
Q7. How do I pay for my Japanese lessons?
You can pay with PayPal or credit card (American Express, Mastercard, or Visa). For certain international markets (e.g. Taiwan), we also accept local methods of payment, such as payment via ATM or convenience store.
Q8. How many Japanese lessons should I purchase?
If you have a short term goal, we recommend you purchase enough lessons that you can take classes consistently within your timeframe. If you need significant improvement to reach your goal, we recommend you an adequate number of lessons, and get into the habit of regular weekly learning! The more you put in, the more you get out of it!
Q9. What if I have more questions?
Our FAQs page should have answers to most of your questions. If you can't find the answer to your question on the FAQs page, you can contact us by clicking the red question mark (?) icon at the bottom right of your screen.
